How it works

Coaches are there to help you get from where you are to where you want to go.

There are very few professional athletes in any sport who do not have coaches.  Coaches are there to get the most out of the individual or team that they coach with an understanding that the coach will score no goals, take no shots and is often in the stands when the athlete competes.  Executives and corporations have caught onto this and are investing in coaches to help leaders reach their professional and personal potential.

What is coaching?

Professional coaches are trained to listen to their clients and ask provocative questions that help deliver on their professional or personal goals.  Like professional athletes, clients know their situation best usually have a solution inside them that needs to be drawn out by the coach. International Coach Federation

How is Coaching different from therapy?

Coaching does not involve diagnosing, prescribing or curing illness or problems.  The focus is on what you want, what his holding you back and what you learn about yourself along the way.  As  you go through this journey there are often emotions present when you are challenged for setting a goal too low, or get frustrated when something holds you back etc. and there is also celebration and joy when you do reach important milestones.

What’s the difference between Executive Coaching and Life Coaching?

Executive coaching is usually focused most on workplace goals, issues, or topics.  That said, Executives are also people and if there is something in their life that is preventing them from showing up 100% at work each day, then a coach can help there too.  Life Coaching on the other hand is usually focused on life topics such as Health, Relationships, Finance, or Career in the broader context.

How do I know if coaching is right for me (or my employee)?

It is best to discuss it with us!  We can speak to the business leader who facilitates the coaching or the client themselves to see if there is a fit between what we can offer and the unique needs your organization has.

Can you give me some examples of the type of issues that clients bring to coaching?

This varies from person to person, session to session but leaders often benefit from:

  • personal performance and productivity;
  • getting the most out of their teams;
  • painting a clear and aspirational vision for the company;
  • setting the goals and strategies for your company (as an entrepreneur)
  • transitioning into a new role.

As a person:

  • Improving relationships
  • Balancing life and career priorities
  • Transitioning through career or life roles.
  • Improving your health
  • Improving your finances

Who’s your ideal client?

There is an old saying “you can lead a horse to water but you can’t make them drink”  We are looking for “Thirsty Thoroughbreds”; people who have the ability, desire and commitment to make big changes in their lives.  People who say what they do and do what they say!

What is your methodology?

At Kick Ass Coaching we use a multi-step process that can help you:

  1. Understand where you are and where you want to be.
  2. Identify your values.
  3. Create clarity on what the future looks like for you.
  4. Set clear measurable goals.
  5. Develop an action plan to achieve your goals

We are all different and with your help we customize a program that works for you.  We also use the Co-active Coaching methodologies taught by CTI.

What’s a typical coaching session like?

Each confidential session is lead by you!  you will come to a session with an area that you would like coaching on.  You also give yourself homework each time which could be actions to take, reflections to make, etc. and you will likely want to share progress here as well.  As we get through the topic, we are there to ask you questions that get you to take actions that get you closer to your goal, challenge you and help you learn more about yourself.  We find clients get the most out of the experience working with us for at least 6 months.

What if I want to hire you to Coach one of my direct reports/employees?

It is very common in organizations for companies to invest in results through coaching.  We are happy to connect with you, your direct report, or HR in your company to ensure we understand your needs and what outcomes you are looking for.  The key is to help set goals and get results that the client is after.  Sessions are not typically run or lead by the coach as pushing a coach’s agenda is contrary to our role as an unbiased coach.  Additionally, all sessions are confidential so any reporting required is usually handled by the employee to the extent they feel comfortable.
